Satirical technique - Irony

Verbal irony: used to describe something in a way that is other than what it seems; Often used with a sarchastic tone.
ex: that's great (forgot homework)

Dramatic irony: inherent in speeches or situation of drama; understood by audience but not grasped by characters in the play
Ex: two people are engaged to be married but the audience knows that the man is planning to run away with another woman

Situational irony: difference of intention and result when result is contrary to the desires effect
Ex: Fire station that burned down

Satirical Technique - Tone

Tone: It is a way for the author to make fun of characters and there faults. It is how the author sets the mood. 
Lines like " i know what you did last Friday the 13th"(Scary movie).

Satirical Technique- Burlesque

A burlesque is an outrageous imitation of something that is supposed to be taken seriously. An example of burlesque with satire would be a type of parody of any musical, poem or art.

(noun) the playful use of over-emphasizing to draw attention to a certain trait, situation, or action of something or someone

example: in the South Park episode of New Jersey talking over the US, the portrayal of Snooki is an example of exaggeration

Sarricical technique- Reversal

Reversal- to present the opposite of the normal order, it focuses on hierarchical order

Example- serving the dessert before the main dish

Definition:
Incongruity(incongruous)- not harmonious; unsuitable

Example:
An orange house among white houses

Parody : an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with delibirate exaggeration for comic effect.

Ex : a parody to a song (Wrecking Ball- Miley Cyrus, Friday- Rebbeca Black)

Satirical technique-Exaggeration

To enlarge, increase, or represent something beyond normal bounds so that it becomes ridiculous and its faults can be seen. Cartoons, especially political cartoons, provide extensive examples of exaggeration. 

That dress must have cost a trillion dollars.

The atmosphere of a situation or how a person's voice is used or how it sounds.

I.e. A sassy child talking to their parent

Satirical technique - Reversal

A reversal is -

To present the opposite of the normal order. Reversal can focus on the the order of events, such as serving dessert before the main dish or having breakfast for dinner. Additionally, reversal can focus on hierarchical order—for instance, when a young child makes all the decisions for a family or when an administrative assistant dictates what the company president decides and does. 

Example: 

When a princess goes to save the prince, instead of vice versa.

Irony- the expression of ones meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite. Typically for numerous affect. 

Example: planned parenthood office next to an abortion clinic

Satirical Technique- Tone

Tone- the writers mood when writing the text.

Example-It was a beautiful and bright day outside I felt as if everything is going to be alright.
The tone in this example is positive.

A parody is an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.

Examples of parodies are the songs on YouTube making fun of the original songs.

incongruity- out of keeping or place; inappropriate; the lack of agreement or harmony; the lack of appropriateness and fitness.

Example: "I caught a fish as big as my house"
